Physiological fact, the tongue is the strongest muscle in the body and heals faster than any other part of the body. Scripture presents a paradoxical element to this fact that the tongue is so powerful that it brings death or life, however the damage caused doesn’t heal fast at all. Proverbs 18:21 tell us “Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits.” Communication is what hinders us in most relationships, causing hurt and damage that can last a lifetime if we let it. In the aftermath-bringing guilt, shame, bitterness, resentfulness, anger, and pain. This is serious when we grieve the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:16-26) and so we need to seek God’s wisdom. We can either build someone up or tear him/her down?
It’s not just the actual words it’s the heart behind the words. If your fruit is anger, resentment, hatred, selfishness then your words will bring destruction. If your fruit is love, joy, kindness then your words will bring life and encouragement. Jesus tells the parable in Luke chapter 6:43; that “no good tree bears bad fruit, nor again does a bad tree bear good fruit, for each tree is known by its own fruit.” So, I ask you all to pray Psalm 139:23-24: “Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts! And see if there be any grievous way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting!” What is your tree producing? Where is your heart? Start now by communicating life not death to one another, overflow with good fruit, loving one another as Christ loves us, and walking in the Spirit. Heart and life change only comes from God, so get vertical with Him now!
“The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” Luke 6:45
