ad·vent – The arrival of a notable person, thing, or event.
This Sunday, November 27th, we officially enter into the Advent season. Churches all over the globe will gather to celebrate Jesus Christ. The church is in an interestingly beautiful place in history. We look back and remember Christ’s first coming. The One promised by God to come crush the serpents head (Gen. 3:15), came to us as a baby born of a virgin (Isaiah 7:14). The God-man Jesus Christ grew up, walked in complete obedience to God the Father, and lovingly gave his life for those he came to serve by dying a horrific death in our place on a Roman cross (Mark 10:45). After three days in the tomb, Jesus Christ rose in victory over sin, death, and all of his enemies in accordance with the Scriptures (1 Cor. 15:4).
In a nutshell, The promised Messiah, Jesus Christ, came humbly, lived perfectly, died brutally, rose victoriously, reigns eternally, and will return immanently. Advent is a time of remembering and celebrating Christ's first coming and joyfully anticipating his second.
