New sermon series starts this week called “We Are The Church”. Ekklesia, the greek word commonly translated to “church” in the new testament meaning “the called-out ones/ assembly/ congregation”.

The local church is a community of regenerated believers who confess Jesus Christ as Lord. In obedience to Scripture they organize under qualified leadership, gather regularly for preaching and worship, observe the biblical sacraments of baptism and Communion, are unified by the Spirit, are disciplined for holiness, and scatter to fulfill the Great Commandment and the Great Commission as missionaries to the world for God’s glory and their joy.

Other resources:
Key Passages: 1 Cor 12:12-31, Acts 2:42-47
   Other: _______________________________________________________________

  1. Ask if someone can give the primary sermon points to refresh the message (be prepared to do this yourself if needed).
  2. When you hear the word “church”, what words come to mind? How would you describe “church” in your own words?
    1. Define “ekklesia”. (those who are the called-out ones) Read Mark 3:13, WHO is being called out? (those whom He desires); WHAT are they being called TO? (to Himself Jesus)
The church “is composed of those who are called by God not only outwardly but inwardly by the Holy Spirit. When Jesus calls someone to discipleship, He is calling that person to Himself, to belong to Him, to follow Him, and to learn from Him and of Him.” - RC Sproul
  3. Read 1 Cor 12:12-31. What descriptions of the church are found here?
  4. Read Acts 2:42-47. What are some characteristics of the early church in this passage?
  5. Ask if there are any other personal observations or takeaways from the scripture or sermon.

Pray for the “called out” body of Christ (specifically covenant members of The Mount) to live “all out” for Jesus - in love, in grace, in truth… so that God is glorified, people are discipled and the lost saved.
