Gospel-Centered Recovery

Gospel-centered recovery

at the mount

Our heart and hope is to create a safe-place for people to come rest, heal and re-orient their lives around the gospel of Jesus Christ.  We want to create a culture and environment at The Mount where all people are welcome at all times, even in the toughest of times.  None of us have it all together!  Our weekly Redemption Groups and the 13-week STEPS discipleship study are for this purpose.  To provide a place for the hurting, the broken, the frustrated or confused, the doubting or depressed, or the stagnant... to come and feel accepted & encouraged and leave with hope and healing.

We know true redemption and healing are found only in Jesus Christ.  Redemption Groups and STEPS point you to HIM and to see these truths through the light of Scripture and a personal relationship with Jesus.

steps - discipleship study

STEPS is a 13-week, intensive, discipleship study that is open for everyone. The study leads individuals to embrace the freedom found only in Christ's redemption. The STEPS study essentially is a discipleship study - a deeper look into the Bible helping us understand and implement God's truths in our lives. STEPS uses the guidance of the STEPS book written by Michael Snetzer and Matt Chandler. It includes weekly homework, attendance, mentorship, and a self-inventory.  Participants will be paired with a mentor to journey with them over the 13 weeks for encouragement and coaching.

Each Thursday session of STEPS will consist of a large-group gathering for worship and teaching time followed by a small group sharing time.

STEPS is generally offered each Fall and Spring. Register now BELOW for the next session of STEPS!

redemption Groups - recovery

Redemption Groups are for anyone who has experienced or wants to experience the sweet redeeming mercy and grace of Jesus Christ: everyone and anyone. From marriage troubles to addiction, from a heavy past to a dim future, from depression to apathy, Redemption Groups are a safe place for you.  They are a place where anyone can land whether they are in the middle of the storm or have landed safely by the grace of God on the shore after being tossed to and fro by one. The truth is, we are all just one breath, phone call, or situation away from the next storm; Redemption Groups are a soft, Jesus-saturated environment that one can plant themselves into during such a time.  That is the true purpose of Redemption Groups.

Redemption Groups separate into male and female specific groups to build a community based on what the Lord has redeemed, is redeeming, or will be redeeming in our lives in this broken world.  (See FAQ's below.)

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is 'STEPS' or a 'redemption group' the same as a Community Group?

no, but can be similar. you will find community and a sense of belonging in your steps or redemption group; but STEPS is only 13 weeks and redemption groups are not intended to be long-term.
If you are currently in a community Group, you may be able to attend both (if your schedule allows) or you may decide to just go to steps or a redemption group for a season... and then return to your cg. if you are not currently in a cg, then this is a great 1st step; join steps or a redemption group and then roll into one of our existing cg's after.

2. is 'steps' or 'redemption groups' just for those with "addictions"?

No.  they are for anyone who is affected by slavery of sin and suffering. so yes that includes those with "addictions" but everyone else as well.  they are for those that want to grow stronger in their obedience by identifying and making war on areas that hinder them to walk freely through their faith in christ.

3. should i do 'steps' or join a 'redemption group'?

great question! - Redemption groups are for individuals who aren't ready to commit the time & regularity of the Steps Study or for those who just need a place to jump in mid-semester; redemption groups are always open to new people. - steps is great for an individual is ready for life change, ready to commit & invest in what it takes. steps is great for individuals who like, need, or thrive with having a structured curriculum to walk through.

4. why is 'steps' and 'redemption groups' so life changing?

Short Answer = Jesus!  There is something about admitting I'm a sinner, calling out my sin, handing it over to jesus... and doing this in a safe, non-judgemental, open community of others doing the same thing... that just fosters true healing and recovery of hope, joy and freedom that can only be found in christ.  the steps curriculum & mentors and redemption group leaders are focused on jesus and intentional about healing that lasts... all to god's glory.

5. is there childcare available?

yes.  free childcare will be available.

6. Will I have to talk much?

Everyone will have an opportunity and a responsibility to share in a small group setting. confession is a critical component of repentance. you will not be forced to talk but rather encouraged... knowing that true growth and healing begins there.

7. can i bring my teenager with me?

steps is geared for adults and so it is limited to those 18 years old and older.

8. do i have to go every week?

for steps, "yes"... if at all possible.  to maximize the effectiveness of the steps experience, each participant is asked to make a commitment to attend each of the 13 week sessions.  a maximum of 2 weeks can be missed.
for redemption groups, "NO".  you do not have to go every week, however consistent attendance to allow god to work is recommended.

9. What does a night at 'steps' or 'redemption groups' look like?

you will start off in the student center main room with a time of worship followed by a large group time of teaching.  After the main teaching time, you will break out into separate rooms by gender into small groups of 6-10 people.  redemption group participants form have their own small groups separate from steps participants.

10. is there homework?

"yes" for steps participants; there is daily bible study and questions to complete throughout the week.

11. what if i can't make it to this semester of 'steps' or 'redemption groups'?

we plan to offer the 13-week 'steps' study each fall and spring. redemption groups will be offered at least during the 13 weeks of the steps study and possibly on additional weeks during the year as well.
if you registered for this semester's 'steps' study but you are told the study is 'full', you will be added to the top of the list for our next semester.
